We’re talking about visionary goals — the kind that fit into your life, inspire you, and bring more calm to the chaos of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by goal-setting methods that don’t align with your reality, this episode is for you. You’ll learn how to define and set visionary goals that actually work for your lifestyle, discover a simple strategy to break down big goals into bite-sized action steps, understand how to stay motivated and aligned without burnout, and develop the mindset shifts you need to achieve long-term success.
Ready? Let’s get started! You can read and listen below.
What Are Visionary Goals?
The first step is to define what a visionary goal is. It will help you set up clear goals for yourself. A visionary goal isn’t just another task on your to-do list—it’s about direction, meaning, and designing a life that brings fulfillment. Unlike traditional goal setting, which often focuses on checking boxes, visionary goals are about aligning with your values, passions, and the lifestyle you want to create.
Ask Yourself:
- What does success truly look like for me?
- Am I setting goals based on what I want, or based on external expectations?
- How can my goals reflect my values while allowing space for family, joy, and personal growth?
Actionable Tip: Close your eyes and visualize your ideal day — both work and home life. Think about the sounds, the people, the emotions, and the moments that matter most. If your current goals don’t bring you closer to this vision, it’s time for a shift. At first this was really hard for me, taking moments to be alone with myself and being 100% comfortable with my thoughts as I visualized was challenging. It was a new skill I had to learn, but I promise you, as you do it, it will get better. If you feel like you can’t start with long periods of time, set a timer and begin with one minute. Give yourself grace if your mind wanders and gently come back to those thoughts.
Breaking Down Goals for Busy Moms
Truth bomb alert — life as a mom and entrepreneur is a whirlwind. Between school drop-offs, back-to-back client calls, sports, meal planning, and the million other things on your plate, goal setting can sometimes feel like just another overwhelming task. But here’s the truth: you don’t have to do it all at once.
The key to making real progress? Bite-sized, realistic goals. When you break your big vision into manageable and actionable steps, you reduce stress, stay motivated, and actually see results without burning yourself out. Instead of feeling stuck in the “all-or-nothing” cycle, this approach helps you move forward with clarity and confidence.
So, how do you do it? Let’s walk through a simple goal-setting structure that works with your busy life—not against it.
How to Structure Your Visionary Goals:
Choose ONE big goal for the year. Something that would make you feel truly accomplished.
Break it down into mini-goals. Focus on 2-3 smaller steps per quarter that build toward your big goal.
Stay flexible. Life happens! It’s okay to adjust as needed.
One of the biggest things I tell my clients is that sometimes your way isn’t the only way. It doesn’t have to be either/or. It can be AND. Or you could ask yourself, how can I do this differently to create a result I’m looking for.
Example of a Business Goal Breakdown:
Big Goal: Launch a new product by the end of the year
- Q1: Map out the product concept
- Q2: Design and source materials
- Q3: Build the marketing strategy
- Q4: Implement and launch
Example of a Personal Goal Breakdown:
Big Goal: Lose 30 pounds in a year
- Q1: Focus on building a workout habit
- Q2: Improve nutrition and meal planning
- Q3: Increase strength training
- Q4: Focus on long-term maintenance
Ask Yourself:
- What is one goal that excites and challenges me?
- How can I break this down into smaller, achievable milestones?
- How will I make space for flexibility without guilt?
Staying Aligned and Motivated
One of the biggest struggles with long-term goals? Consistency. And it is probably one of my own personal struggles. As someone who doesn’t have a great attention span and can’t always focus very well, this is important. The reality is that motivation comes and goes, but systems and habits are what carry you through the tough days when you don’t feel like showing up. The key is creating sustainable practices that work even when life gets messy, because let’s be honest—as busy moms and entrepreneurs, life is always throwing us curveballs. Here’s how to keep yourself on track:
Track Your Progress and Celebrate Wins
Even small victories count! Whether it’s journaling, using a planner, or checking off a to-do list, tracking your progress keeps you focused. But here’s what most people miss: tracking isn’t just about documenting what you’ve done—it’s about creating evidence of your capability. When you can look back and see how far you’ve come, especially on days when progress feels slow, that visual reminder becomes incredibly powerful.
Consider creating a simple weekly check-in where you note three wins, no matter how small. Did you meal prep on Sunday? That’s a win. Did you show up for that networking call even though you were tired? Another win. These moments of recognition fuel your momentum and remind you that you’re already succeeding.
Find an Accountability Partner
Having someone to check in with (a friend, mentor, or mastermind group) can boost motivation and keep you moving forward. The magic happens when you find someone who understands your journey and can offer both encouragement and gentle challenges when you need them. This person doesn’t have to be in your exact situation, but they should be someone who respects your goals and won’t let you off the hook too easily.
Schedule regular check-ins—whether it’s a weekly coffee date, a monthly phone call, or even just text updates. Additionally, just knowing someone is going to ask about your progress is enough to keep you moving when motivation wanes.
I use an app called Voxer with two of my business besties. We do a quick 5-min update everyday on what we are working on. It’s so nice to have that person who believes in you and who won’t take any shit or let you make excuses.
Use the Daily Success Tracker
To help you stay on track without feeling overwhelmed, I created a free Daily Success Tracker—a simple tool to keep your goals visible and manageable each day. This isn’t another complicated system that adds stress to your life—it’s designed specifically for busy women who need clarity without complexity. The tracker helps you identify your top three priorities each day and provides space to note wins, challenges, and tomorrow’s focus.
y spending just five minutes each morning and evening with this tool, you create a rhythm of intentionality that keeps your visionary goals front and center, even when the day-to-day demands feel overwhelming.
Ask Yourself:
- How am I tracking my progress?
- Am I celebrating small wins along the way?
- Who can I lean on for support and accountability?
Mindset Matters: Give Yourself Grace
Your journey is just as important as the destination. If your goals evolve, if life throws you curve-balls, or if progress feels slow—it’s okay. Success isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress.
This isn’t about having a perfect time, this isn’t about getting to the end results and being done. It’s about the personal development and growth that you’ll go through as you try to achieve those goals. It’s about building the daily habit of checking in with yourself, in making sure you’re taking the next step forward. It’s about being in community with yourself and the people who are most important to you, whether that’s your best friend, your family, your pets. It’s about the positive impact you’re going to create because you’re taking care of yourself.
Here are a few reminders that will help you make sure you’re doing everything on your own terms.
Mindset Reminders:
Your visionary goals are YOURS. They don’t have to look like anyone else’s.
Flexibility is key. Life changes—your goals should, too.
You are capable. Even on tough days, you are making progress.
Ask Yourself:
- Am I allowing myself to enjoy the journey, or just focusing on the end goal?
- What can I do today to move forward, even if it’s just a small step?
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, you are capable of achieving your visionary goals without sacrificing the things that matter most. By setting intentional, flexible, and meaningful goals, you can create a life that aligns with your values and brings you joy.

Quotes
“I like to think about a visionary goal as not what’s on your to-do list. It’s a goal that’s going to give you direction and meaning. It’s more about the life that you want to lead, the work that fills you with pride, the joy of creating memories with your family, your kids, [and] your friends along the way” [1:40]
“[Being flexible with goal-setting] If something changes, it’s okay to adjust. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s never going to be 100% a part of the plan. We all live these incredible, unique lives and our goals are also unique.” [11:02]
“[W]hen you’re checking in with yourself, when you’re feeling into your feelings, even if it’s just for a couple minutes a day––even if it’s just jotting down a sentence in a journal or in a notepad on your phone, it keeps your goals top-of-mind, and it also helps you see how far you’ve come.” [14:31]
“[I]t’s going to be a hundred percent okay that your goals look different from others. If you’re moving forward in a way that feels right for you, guess what? You’re on the right track. Your mindset is key. This process is not about perfection. It’s about creating a life that fills you up and also giving the people in your life that permission to do the same exact thing.” [19:51]
